NONDUALITY AND SETTLING OF CONDITION

There are many ways of describing an awakening or awakenings. Like anything else, Nonduality seems to have its own type of nomenclature or ‘speak’. These terms for a change include but are by no means limited to words like shift, non- identification, moska, liberation, enlightenment, illumination. For this article we are not interested in describing really that event, but rather in its settling condition. What we can say is this, - that for conversation’s sake, a person has experienced some type of change that is quite significant. Not for us here to worry about what could have caused it, or if it can or cannot be brought about by one’s own ‘volition,’ or by a distinct outside force such as a guru or speaker, a prayer or a type of meditation or lifestyle. Those are important and interesting topics, but here I shall be discussing the setting of this new condition, assuming something has happened.

The body mind still functions and continues, but since it’s a whole running it, - it settles into what it is, and there is less conflict between the body/mind and the ‘outside’ world. However subtle, before, there was a divide, like a small dam, a thin paper, a glass wall. If the divide is taken away, there is just One thing, which is Everything. So there is in a sense a great freedom. Existence itself is running the show. The body and mind still function, and there might appear to be no change to an unsuspecting outside observer. What I feel happens, and it is the experience here, is by losing a self and seeking, the empty person oddly enough (this must sound peculiar and illogical but it has its own logic), is that the ‘person’ becomes more like themselves. This must sound anathema to both logic and all spirituality.  Before a shift, I would have thought the opposite would be true. Shouldn’t someone who is liberated, shifted, whatever, - have then some kind of expansive, transcending, heightened view, outlook, feeling, mindset?

Not necessarily. If we are serious about what we are talking about, meaning if the mind, which is time, identification, all that- has been somehow seem through by something or other,- be existence and non-existence- or rather by something that is both and neither,- than the mind cannot really be cultivated much more. It’s just a tool. So that old thing just is what it is. And the person appearing just is whatever the moment brings. There is only one movement, one song, one beingness. It’s really all one. So again, to use the tern from another article, - one is kind of snapped into place. Instead of being an ant that wants to be a super ant, one is just what one is, - an ant. More of an ant, ordinary. Instead of being a human that things it is a spiritual being, one is now lost to that, and is just human, and thus just more of whatever the body mind is prone to be. But there is a complete honesty about it, and no divide.

True spirituality, oddly enough, is not spiritual at all. It is just reality. There is no separation between anything. Therefore, who and what would be ‘spiritual?’ The spiritual person is still on a path, and the ‘spiritual person’ is not bad, but implies a ‘person’.

If a shift occurs it can take years to sort this out. I heard about seven, and that seems correct. The body-mind is getting used to this new condition. What is odd is that the seven years take place inside of no-time, - inside of stillness. Everything is completely reversed. Before a person would go through seven years, such as,’ it took seven years to get this degree.’ After a shift, there is no time, - but seven years happen inside of no-time, of stillness, - in pure beingness. It can be seen that the moment/condition never changed one iota,- but the earth goes round the sun, the days turn to nights, seasons change, it rains, it snows, so on and on. During this ‘time’ the body mind settles in to what it is. If it is athletic it will probably be more athletic, if it is sedentary, it will probably be moreso. In my experience, it becomes more of what it was, - there is more honestly, as if it is twice born, or born again, and is now like a child, just itself, happy to be itself.
